Tips for Driving in Prague
Car-Rental-Prague.com
Driving Age
18 for all cars. 17 for motorcycles over 50cc 15 for motorcycles under 50cc.
Speed limit
50 kph (30 mph) in built-up areas, 90 kph (56 mph) outside built-up areas, 130 kph (78 mph) on expressways, 80 kph (50 mph) for a car with a caravan or trailer traveling outside built-up areas or on expressways.
Documentation
International Driving Permit is required unless you have the new Photocard licence. Carry all your rental documentation, drivers license and car registration with you at all times, as fines will be incurred otherwise.
Alcohol limit
The legal alcohol limit in all of Czech is 0 mg, not a drop more. There is absolutely 0 tolerance to drink-driving in Prague, so I don't recommend you try it.
Parking
Parking is only allowed on the right side of the road, but this does not apply to one-way roads. Parking along a tram line is prohibited unless you leave a 3.5-metre wide lane between the vehicle and the tram lane. Do not park within 5 metres of an intersection, pedestrian crossing, or public transportation stop. Do not park within 15 metres of a train crossing.
Children & Pedestrians
Children must be at least 12 years of age to sit in the front seat. The use of seat belts is compulsory for front and rear-seat passengers. If someone steps to the side of a pedestrian crossing you must slow to let them cross, though many local drivers do not.
